Penoval Case Study

The Story:

Penoval is one of the best-selling stylus pens in Amazon and Taiwan with their own internal Amazon team. So when they found us on Google and requested a meeting, we were curious what about. Their problem was simple: they hired a previous agency who failed miserably at doing their branding; they showed us the images for their A+ & brand store, which were very low quality. Penoval mentioned they’ve done their homework, had meetings with every agency, pegged us as the best of the best, and wanted to sign the contract immediately. We signed the contract and started to redo their Amazon branding to give them a proper facelift.

Step 1: Research

  1. First, we researched Amazon and the other competing brands and studied Penoval’s strategy. It turns out they are like many other rookie brands: the previous agency just copied everyone else’s strategy.
  2. We noticed all the brands used the same strategy and dedicated their lineup strategy to the same features: palm rejection & magnetic feature; we knew we had to be different.
  3. Penoval informed us one of their pain points was getting returns from their customers from buying the wrong models.

Step 2: Developing New Amazon Branding.

Lineup Strategy:
  1. We had meetings with the Penoval team to discuss functionalities and they shared with us the strength of their product; we took note and decided to showcase their app as one of the robust features that other brands didn’t have.
  2. We decided to make a new compatibility chart that’s easier to see.
  3. We decided to come up with a better comparison graphic to show
  4. We decided NOT to dedicate 2 images to the generic features everyone else was using on palm rejection & magnetic features.
A+ Content & Amazon Brand Store:
  1. We started developing new visual concepts for the A+ Content and Brandstore, Penoval’s vision was using Apple as an inspiration but adding more spice. We didn’t want to use Apple’s traditional white background tonality and decided to go with something light but still with some color.

Step 3: Final Results

Summary

  1. We took over a previous botched branding job and revitalized Penoval’s Amazon branding.
  2. We collaborated with Penoval’s team to develop a new strategy for their lineup strategy, A+ content, & Amazon brandstore.
  3. Our design team executed and came up with fresh visuals for all the Amazon branding.
  4. Penoval was super happy with the results and referred more clients to us, success!
